3 Ways to Empower Your Morning
What follows is a morning kick starter that I began trying in 2014, purely out of curiosity.
It’s a combination of practices that I learned and/or read about from some very successful individuals – athletes, businessmen, philosophers, etc.
Today it’s a daily habit for me, and one that I have gained many benefits from. And the best thing about it, is that it is very simple and can be implemented right away.
Here’s 3 ways you can empower your mornings and improve your daily performance.
1. DRINK 2 Glasses of water
As soon as you wake up, head to the kitchen and drink. Like a plant that loves you for nourishing its soil, so also your body thrives from a good drink to start the day.
Your body is made up of 70% water, so it’s essential to keep it fresh and topped up to keep the body working at its best.
At night, your body repairs itself and casts out all the toxins in the body. When you drink water on an empty stomach in the morning, you will flush out these toxins, leaving your body fresh and healthy. It also naturally urges movement in your bowels.
Drinking plenty of water can help in increasing the production of muscle cells and new blood cells.
Start it today, give yourself a week or so, and you’ll feel and even see the difference in your body.
2. Finish your SHOWER cold
Shower as normal, then before getting out, turn the tap to full cold. Let it soak your face and any sore body parts for as long as you can.
Don’t turn it back to warm.
Jump out, and let your body naturally reheat itself. It’s very invigorating.
Cold water immersion activates the body’s natural healing abilities that can relieve the symptoms of many conditions and promote a sense of health and well-being. And when practised on a regular basis, cold water immersion can even provide long-lasting changes to your body’s immune, lymphatic, circulatory and digestive systems that enhance the overall quality of your life.
Some of the things I personally noticed was:
- Improved skin and hair
- Increased alertness and energy
- Quicker muscle recovery
In fact, I’ve enjoyed the benefits of cold showers so much that I now always shower cold – yep, even through the winter. You get use to it.
3. Do 15-30 box breaths
- Inhale through your nose for 5sec
- hold for 5sec
- exhale through your mouth for 5sec
- hold for 5sec – repeat.
That’s 20sec per box breath.
Some of the benefits:
- Improves your health – especially the lungs.
- Helps to let go of negative emotions and calm your mind.
- Muscles become more relaxed.
- You will feel more alert.
- You are in a greater state of awareness (less noise, less distraction and fogginess of mind) and you become more in touch with yourself, which can help with decisions and clarity.
